Saving water

Renewing our network of water mains

One of the most obvious ways to reduce leakage is to renew our water mains.

As our mains get old, the material they are made from can degrade and become compromised. When this happens, it can become more economical to replace the main than to continue fixing it when it leaks.

Between 2025-2030, we are replacing 250km of ageing pipework across our two supply regions (South Staffs and Cambridge), targeting areas of our network that have a history of bursting or leaking. This is the equivalent of replacing a pipeline from London to Manchester.
