Emergency road closure: Chapel Lane, Great Barr

South Staffs Water is continuing to carry out emergency highway repairs along Chapel Lane, in Great Barr today (Wednesday 4 January) following a burst water main.

The six-inch water main burst at 2.15am causing damage to the road structure. The water company has been busy carrying out emergency repairs and was able to restore supplies to 33 properties in the area by 7.30am.

Work will continue throughout the day and the water company expects to be able to open one lane, controlled with two-way traffic lights, by mid-afternoon. Local diversions are in place.

Tomorrow there will be two-way traffic lights in place, with the exception of a short road closure while we reinstate the final road surface. The road will open as normal once this has been completed.

A spokesman for South Staffs Water, said: “This road is used locally by drivers as a link between Walsall and Junction 7 of the M6.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to encourage motorists to seek alternative routes while we work to repair the road as quickly as possible.

Chapel Lane , in Great Barr is closed this morning (Wednesday 4 January) following a burst water main.

The emergency road closure is expected to be in place most of the day while South Staffs Water carries out repairs.

The six inch water main burst in the early hours of this morning causing damage to the road structure. Local diversions are in place.

Around 33 properties will be without water for a short time while repairs are carried out.
