My bills and payments

Your water bill covers the cost of the treated water you use every day, as well as the used water that gets taken away and gets treated again before going back into the environment.

We charge you for the water we supply that comes out of your taps, and Severn Trent charges you for the wastewater that gets taken away. The price of both is covered in one bill, so that is more convenient for you. 

Our price is based on:

  • The amount of water you use, if our supply is metered, or
  • The rateable value of your property is don't have a meter

Your wastewater charge from Severn Trent covers used water, sewerage services, surface water and highway drainage.

Your bill also includes a standing charge to cover the cost of billing and administration.

How the price of our bills is set

Our charges change each year on 1 April and follow the rules set out in legislation and by Ofwat, the industry regulator.

We’re committed to keeping bills as low as possible; however, some increases are necessary so that we can  
continue to deliver the things that matter most to you, and improve in areas such as reducing leakage.

  • £60 million to replace ageing pipes, most at risk of leaking or bursting.

High-quality water

  • £145 million to improve and maintain water treatment plants and pumping stations.

Supporting customers

  • £64 million to provide help when and where it's needed most, for example, those on our Priority Services Register who may need help in an emergency.

Reliable supply, 24/7

  • £390 million to keep water flowing to homes and businesses. 

Protecting the environment

  • £43 million to significantly reduce water waste and support sustainability projects. 

We're committed to making these essential improvements whilst keeping bills affordable. We are proud that our charges remain amongst the lowest in the country.
