Customers in xxxxxx told not to use water DRAFT!!!

South Staffs Water is instructing customers in xxxxxxxx not to use any tap water until further notice.

This is a precaution which has been taken while we investigate the possibility of a [contamination???] of the water supply. (Add more details if available).

Boiling will NOT purify your tap water.
  • Do not drink the tap water
  • Do not use tap water for cleaning your teeth or food preparation
  • Do not use tap water for your pets
  • Do not use tap water for washing or bathing
  • Water can still be used for flushing toilets
There is water available for you to collect at the following locations: xxx

Residents are advised that side effects from contact with the contaminant may be: 
  • Skin irritation
  • Eye irritation
  • Sickness and diarrhoea
Anyone who is suffering from any of these symptoms should contact their doctor or NHS Direct on 0845 4647  or 111 immediately.

An advice card will be delivered to all affected households during the course of the day and updates will be available via our website and in the local media.

Customers should not use the water until they receive an “All clear” card from South Staffs Water.

Phil Newland, South Staffs Water’s managing director, said:

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank customers for following this important advice. Customers’ health is always our number one priority and we are working around the clock to return the water to its usual excellent standard as soon as possible.

“We will continue to update customers regarding the situation as more information becomes available.”

South Staffs Water is working with local authorities and the Health Protection Agency to provide advice.
