New water charges for 2023/24 announced

We've announced our new water charges for 2022/23 and household customers will continue to receive one of the lowest combined water and sewerage bills in England and Wales.

The average charge across all customers for the water they need to drink, cook, wash and clean will amount to around 50p per day. Although individual charges for customers will vary depending on whether they pay rateable value or have a water meter, the increase will be no more than 4.1%.

In addition to clean water charges, customers are charged for wastewater services, which are collected on behalf of Severn Trent. These charges will also increase according to its pricing structure.

“We know that many people are struggling, so we aim to keep any price increase as low as possible. In addition, we have made a commitment to spread any increases over the next few years, so that customers will only ever see a “smooth” increase, rather than a jump, in their bills. We hope that this gives our customers confidence that their bills will continue to be affordable.

"If anyone is struggling, I’d encourage them to please get in touch with us. We will be able to help them arrange a payment plan, check if they would be eligible for our special tariff or work out if they’d be better off on a water meter. We will be contacting customers over the next weeks to make sure they do know what support we can offer them.”

Andy Willicott, Managing Director.

The prices for 2022/23 are in line with our five-year business plan submitted to Ofwat in 2018. These plans are developed by every water and sewerage company after extensive consultation with customers. The consultation incorporated the views of 1,000 customers and 82% found the proposed prices acceptable.

The money collected through bills will allow us to continue to invest in our treatment works, improve our network of pipes to prevent leakage and provide support to customers on a low income who are struggling to pay their bills.
